My name is Vanessa Titmuss and I am the Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) Nurse Specialist for Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. I qualified 15 years ago, and began my career on the Respiratory inpatient wards. I moved to the Respiratory Outpatients department 8 years ago to take up the post of Sister for the day ward, and 4 years ago moved into my current post.
My role involves reviewing patients in clinic to initiate and council patients starting on new treatments, and on-going management. My physiology colleagues carryout lung function tests, which help with monitoring for disease improvement/progression, and then adjusting treatment accordingly. Some of these treatments are in the form of infusions which I administer on our day ward. A huge part of my role is supporting patients throughout their illness and referring to other healthcare professionals at appropriate times; this may include the Home Oxygen service, District Nurses, Pulmonary rehabilitation and The Palliative Care Team.
